Hip Hop & Motivation in My Coffee

Image
For the record, I don't drink coffee. It makes your breath stank. Yes, I meant to say stank. I started my week off with a little bit of Hip Hop Harmony at 18th Street Lounge in DC on Sunday night. This was my first visit to that spot and I can say that it is not for everybody, but I was digging the eclectic atmosphere and sheek setting that it offered. I was primarily there because I wanted to check out the indie acts that were performing. Fatso Skinny, who I learned about last week and posted his single on my FB wall, was in the house. Dude is mad versatile. You'll catch the dude spittin' hard one minute and then crooning out smooth vocals the next. He's an all around artist, which I deeply respect. I only caught half of an acapella track that he did. Unfortunately his people dipped before I could cop a disc. Oh well. I'll have to catch dude at his farewell party, which I think is next week. Peep more tracks from him here . On My Knees [the haiku] by Fatso Anot

Just 2 Be Funny

As soon as I saw this, I had to share it.

Therapy Thursdays

I promise you that DJ 2MUCH and I were working on an event concept that would use this same title. What's funny is that Therapy Thursdays at Indulj hosted by Poet and the Future Band was pretty much a model for the idea we had. Last night, I made it out only off of a suggestion from someone's Twitter Page and now I think I'm in love. It's been a minute since I've found a spot where I could listen to good music from a GOOD band. I know DC is stocked full of them but I'm just now becoming familiar with that scene. So, let's talk about Poet and the Future Band. After seeing someone's status about them performing at Indulj and that the show was FREE , I did a little bit of research and found this article . Of coure I had to find them on Twitter and peep their following to see that it wasn't just some corny local band. Based on the performance, they definitely weren't. The band which consists of Poet(male vocalists), Mickey (female vocalist), a dr

The Snuggie Macarena

I'm going to start this post off by saying that the snuggie is proof that stupid people are in power and getting stronger every second. I will not recant my statement for anything, but if you agree with me, in the words of Master P's movie/song " I Got The Hook Up " holler if you hear me. About two years ago, I blogged about the Snuggie Phenomenon. While flipping through the channels I came across the coonery that is the latest snuggie commercial to the tune of The Macarena. SMH. Look America, if you want to walk around your house looking like your from a monastary or some type of cult by all means I won't stop you. Now if you leave the house and go out in public with that mess then you are an equal opportunity candidate to get tazed, pepper sprayed or purposely hit with an object--who knows what you are hiding in that thing. I know negative attention is still attention but I must embed this into my blog so we can agree on how ridiculously. . . ridiculous thi

Just to Be Funny

As soon as I got tagged on Facebook for this video, I tagged every young black male under the age of 18 that I knew to this video and told them to never let this happen to them. The viral craze of Antoine Dodson and his remix may have overshadowed the new phase of ridiculous called 50 Tyson but never the less please peep what I am referring to. I hope you got your laugh in. In my effort use this video as an example for the youth--our leaders of today--to stay in school,I got a few rebuttals. One person told me that he was autistic and another told me not to make fun of him because he is slow. I tend to miss the mark when it comes to being sensitive, but I could not help but wonder a few things. Common sense tells me that if he was smart enough to turn the camera on, or at least smart enough to get someone to help him, smart enough to use the video function and post this mug on YouTube, then he is an equal opportunity candidate for me to blast the unprecedented ignorance of his perf

So on the relationship tip I was thinking about a few things and I endedup recounting my faith. I find it very interesting that the bible tells a man to love his wife and for a wife to respect her husband. To me it gets at the fact that respect is principle. So I found this poem courtesy of itsnotok.org: Respect is... Respect is...listening with out interrupting Respect is...taking your partner's feelings into consideration Respect is...keeping an open mind Respect is...agreeing to disagree Respect is...trying to understand your partner's viewpoint Respect is...loving yourself Respect is...trust and honesty Respect is...giving each other space Respect is...nonviolence Respect is...direct communication Respect is...building a person up instead of tearing them down Respect is...friendship Respect is…not pressuring the other person I don't think the poem was meant to encompass detail about what respect entails but this is a good start. Any thoughts?

Kids Do The Darndest Thing Pt 4

Here's another video in my series. It's funny because in this moment I got 7 different ideas of kids that do funny things that I can record to use for my own amusement. I'm rewriting a couple of passages of this blog because I said some things that made me sound like a child predetor, which I am by no sense of the means. There are just some words that should never appear in the vacinity of the word youth, child, or kid. It was a bad choice of words and that was my mistake. That's what I get for thinking out loud and saying the first thing that comes to mind, even if there is a better choice of words. Oh yeah, I didn't have to tell you that but in my candidicy--not sure that is a word either--I say some of the most random things that are so far gone from who I am. Blame it on the performance part of me. I'm the type of uncle with will play a devious dichotomy. I can give your child advice about the world and toughen them up so they can strategically play the hand

That New New

Not sure where I was going with the title but there was something crazy that my boy Stephen F. said during a meeting with the U.N.I team. Where else can we discuss promotions strategy, review designs for the upcoming line of shirts and other apparel, while being served chicken and shrimp as we watch random YouTube clips of Antoine Dodson. Smh. . . As a result of the meeting this past weekend it looks like I'll be spending most of tomorrow sending announcements to radio stations, following up with local ministries, and doing the same for small businesses. It's keeping my PR skills fresh. Tonight I had rehearsal for my friend's wedding. No, not the wedding rehearsal. She has me and anonther friend of our's singing in her wedding, which I could have sworn was like 3 or 4 weeks away. Instead this mug is next Saturday. It's not like I have to do anything special for it except look sharp, move with swag, walk in at the right moment, and eat free food all weekend. This

Just to Be Funny Pt Tres

I started my week off with this. What other wise would have been a newsworthy story based on its unusual nature, evolved into an even more newsworthy story because the interviewer felt the need to talk to the suspect directly on camera. Shaking my head. What takes the cake is the remix video that followed said incident. The interview in this video has now expanded my list of things not to do infront of white people right after not eating watermelon while walking across the street. One day you'll understand. I've seen many conversations via facebook about this story and remix so now its just a matter of how long it will last. So you can run and tell that run and tell that homeboy homeboy home home homeboy. I will say the remix is a genius. On to the next one

Shout Outs

There always comes a time in my blog when I celebrete the many creative people in my circle by mentioning some of the projects they have going on. These individuals inspire me to work even harder in my personal endeavors and so I must needs to tell their business to any and everybody else that can possibly support them. First on my list is a producer in the DMV that goes by the name of Marcus "DaFingaz" Manderson who is the founder of an entertainment enterprise named Top Notch Productionz . Big up to my dude for winning a remix competition on Cypher Lounge Radio . It's not too late to listen to and vote for his latest Xzibit remix . Follow this link and submit your e-mail address to boost him up to 1st place. The next person on my list is an author, poet, mother, wife, mentor, activist, etc. who I have had the opportunity to work with in collaboration with U.N.I Clothing Co . She goes by the name Profound Thought and you can hear her thoughts in her personal journa
