The Best I Ever Felt

I have to capture this before too much time passes. So this March has been my 1 year anniversary of working as a college professor. I currently teach part-time, which means that I've been paying my rent, partying, tithing, and making life work on a wing and a prayer. From this I truly know that God is my source. Well either way, I interviewed for a position as a full-time professor, which means that aside from benefits and more stability, I'll be able to work more closely with students in advising, working over the summer is optional, and I'll still be able to keep the flexible schedule that I got as a part time faculty. Just my luck--the week of the interview, which included a teaching demonstration and a writing sample, just happened to be a busy week and I could only really prepare Thursday night and Friday morning. As I prepared it was evident that I had a lot riding on making this interview count. When this job comes through this will be my FIRST full-time job. I&#

Two Things

Image
I have two things on my mind one of which fuels the fire for the other one. There needs to be justice for Trayvon Martin . A young black teenager was chased and then killed by a white man who happened to be a neighborhood watch volunteer, Zimmerman. Zimmerman went after him saying that the young kid looked "suspicious." The kid was 17 years old and the volunteer was 28. The youth had no weapon on him, and was found with skittles and Arizona tea. Looking further at the facts, this guy calls 911 and they told him not to follow the youth but he follows him anyway. The killer and I'm not saying alleged killer because the event was seen in public, is still out on the streets roaming free. Police say that they didn't have probable cause to arrest Zimmerman. One of the many controversies with this is that the killer is out free. The facts don't add up and the public is not stupid. So far there was a march in New York in support of justice for Trayvon. There are severa

KONY 2012

Image
I wouldn't know about KONY 2012 if my Youth Minister hadn't prayed about the things that are happening. Having not seen the video that went viral and reading this first has me a little disturbed. I'm even more disturbed after seeing this video about what Northern Ugandans said about seeing the video. The more I learn, the more I'm disturbed about this Kony 2012 movement especially how they have a name of a dictator who caused so much turmoil as the name being pushed. C'mon they should have just gave the movement another name instead of the name that strikes horror in the hearts of the African people this campaign is supposedly set up to liberate. In later news the co-founder of Invisible Children, which has been spearheading this campaign, was arrested. I'm going to link you to the Huffington Post article , a Washington Post blog , an article in The Guardian , and in NBC San Diego so you can form your own opinion.

JudahLYFE: The Album is Here

Image
It's here so let me enjoy the moment. Freedom to Worship by D. Jakolby Washington & JudahLYFE is here. The first studio project that I was a part of is now available on iTunes for purchase. I'm going to enjoy this moment. I have to do a better job of not being so blazay about major accomplishments like this. I'm happy that our team has made it this far. Let's see, working on this album has been a stretch. It's taken us close to a year from recording to re-recording, to group member changes, to switching responsibilities to a lot of things that keep you growing. I will say this, although being a part of a gospel group was not something I saw in my path, I firmly believe in where this ministry is going and what all of these sacrifices will lead to. God could not have put me around individuals that really truly care for me the way these guys do. I'm glad to be on this journey with these people. Recording has been a stretch for me. I'm continuing to overc
