Friggin' Expensive

I went to lunch at S'barro with Clarence, you'll see some video footage of him pretty soon, but yo check this. The good news is that S'barro serves more than just Italian food. the bad news is that a bowl of Curry Chicken--I'm talking about the same size portion as the baked zitti-- and a gatorade cost me $12. 50!!! What kinda ish is that? I see that I'll be packing PB&J sandwiches to work after today.

I was interested in the exchange rate there after reading your post and found that right this second a U.S. dollar is $1.01 Bahamian dollars. So the two currencies are almost exactly the same strength right now. Did you have to exchange your money or do they take U.S. dollars (or are you just using a debit card or something the whole time)?

I enjoy hearing about all of this, and it is crazy how expensive everything is. I am wondering if people make more money in the Bahamas or do they grow a lot of their own food or do they simply just have to live in poverty?

It's funny cuz the Bahamian dollar is interchangeable with the U.S. dollar. I have traveler's checks so depending on where the bank is I will get either all American bills, some American and Bahamian bills or Bahamian bills. But I have to get rid of my Bahamian bills cuz they are not acceptable anywhere else.

As far as the growing their own food, it appears that people make ends meet the way they can. I haven't asked about salaries around my office, but it is a government job so they are pretty stable and secure.

I do know that the country is moving in the direction of growing its own food. I'm not an expert about it but this came up in conversation with Ms. Pat plus you have a lot of shops that sell fresh vegetables and fruit.
