2009 Official

Not even a week into 2009 I figure its time to run your ear off with my rambling. This past Christmas break was probably the last Christmas break I will have unless I go into teaching or get a PhD --I know for where I am now that dream is a long time coming. The reason behind that is because I'm ready to step into new territories outside of academe. December 9 I successfully presented my internship project-- a project that I was one step from putting on hold for 2009 because I almost couldn't pull up the strength to finish. With some encouragement from my advisor, some cutting and pasting, I was actually farther than I expected. With that out of the way it freed me up to close out the semester on a better note than before.

NYE ATL was fun. I won't be partying like that for quite some time so I enjoyed it while it lasted. As much as Tech rags on UVA I have some good people that graduated from there. I joined one of my boys and his people--we were about 16 deep. Hit up PF Chang's for dinner 10PM over to the Westin for the end of 08!! For those of you who attend big parties like that, don't be fooled by VIP status, after so long everybody gets the same privileges because it becomes a hastle to keep checking. 5 rooms and we managed to stay in the same spot all night.

New Year's Eve was a night I'll remember for many reasons. So here I am 2009 is here. No resolution just ready to not be afraid if what I have to offer the world is good enough. It's just time to be good enough. It's time to set my sights on some business ventures I've been putting off with my friends. It's time to try some things out. If anything dear reader try to start that one thing you've been putting off. 2009 its also time to realize that people are going to hate you regardless of who you are. Let's do like Katt Williams says and figure out what we gotta do to get one more hater in 2009. For those of you that pray, pray more. It's time to keep things moving. So there you have it.

In other news, the porn industry has asked Congress for a bailout, an assult during the election has been publicized now that the defendents are on trial for hate crimes. And hanging out with associates makes me so much more appreciative of the true friends that I have. I gotta be more thankful and grateful.

Good news I will be traveling to New York City at the end of this month to visit the Ruder Finn agency! I need to get crackin on this play I'm participating in that has its first show in February. The Ebony Affair is coming up, so holla at ya boy if you want tickets. If there is anyone in PR or advertising that is reading this blog please see about me.

Fully Functioning Society

The course that I thought was so riveting is now becoming less of such. This is probably because the questions I ask people just give blank stares as if I'm speaking Chinese, African what have you. I think it is more of a self-confidence thing. I have a high need for feedback and when people don't say anything I start thinking something is wrong with me. Silence makes me nervous for some reason. If that last sentence was a lead to an article I would have gotten absolutely no coverage. So glad I can have a forum where my writing is not being judged. My question today is does PR add value to society? Should it seek to help make society fully functional? We can see now that the consequences of a corporate culture of greed and self interest is finally bearing bitter fruit for so many industries. So now the public is demanding that CSR be the very core of business. But beyond that should PR seek an orientation to make society fully functional? This was the argument in class tonight.

The Death of Nick Charles

This is my first post of 2013! This isn't really the post that I want to start the year off with so let's play catch up. For New Years I went to church, shot my first gun and drank champagne with my cousins. I was pretty excited to get back to work for the Spring semester. One reason being because each semester serves as a fresh start. Another reason being because I had a class that wouldn't start until February, so my load this time around is much lighter. I enrolled into an acting class. Our first assignment, and the reason for this post, is to pick a poem that could be delivered in a minimum of 2 minutes in length. I don't follow poetry too much so I chose the first long poem in Black Voices. It's called The Death of Nick Charles by Everett LeRoi Jones, who I later found out is Amiri Baraka. This One's For The Ladies

To give some context to this statement I'll tell the story of Ruth and Boaz. Ruth's husband died and she decided to stay with her mother in law, Naomi. Naomi and Ruth are dirt poor and go through a lot of tragedy where they are. Instead of returning back to her family she decides to keep the customs of her mother in law. Naomi has a distant relative Boaz, who happens to be mad rich. Naomi tells Ruth to work in Boaz's field to make ends meet. Long story short Boaz takes a liking to Ruth and eventually they get married. Through all of the struggle Ruth went through she ends up with someone that is best for her.
